A striking bronze sculpture with natural burnt patina by wildlife artist Steve Winterburn.
As with all of the wildlife sculptures Steve Winterburn is synonymous with, Zephyr has been expertly crafted and moulded to the unique structure of the Cheetah. This sandy, tan patina used on the body of the cheetah, perfectly resembles the natural colour of the cat. The tactile and textural qualities of the bronze highlight the indents, giving the illusion of spots on the animals coat.
This new life sized sculpture presents the cheetah in a of moment respite. The composition of the animal connotes a feeling of alertness, through the tilted head and movement through the tail. Famously the fastest animal on land, the cheetah is celebrated for its speed and agility, while its graceful and elegant aesthetic makes the cheetah a perfect muse for a sculpture in this medium. Zephyr is the first all body sculpture Castle Fine Art will have collaborated with Steve Winterburn on, it is available as an edition of 8.
The name Zephyr is derived from Zephyrus, Greek God of the wind and tropics. Zephyr is the gentlest of winds, coming from a westerly direction.
As we know, wildlife and conservation is very close to Steve’s heart. His trips to Africa have always been in the name of research, education and raising awareness of the plight of Africa’s unique wildlife. These trips offer a first hand perspective when creating his sculptures and allow Steve to explore the personalities of these interactions. Back in the UK, Steve is an ambassador for many wildlife and environmental charities, something of which has been a lifelong passion.
