A set of three hand-painted animation cels with lithograph background, signed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
First airing in 1958, ‘The Huckleberry Hound Show’ was only the second series produced by Hanna-Barbera Studios. It included three cartoon segments: Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, and Pixie & Dixie & Mr Jinks; each features in this hand-painted cel triptych.
This unique presentation of hand-painted cels on a lithograph backgrounds provides a fascinating insight into the original techniques use by Hanna-Barbera animators back in the 1950s and 60s. Each still in a cartoon would be hand-drawn and painted onto acetate cels and set against separate painted backgrounds to create a snapshot from an entire scene. What’s more, lithograph printing is one of the oldest and highest quality methods printing where skilled artisans create individual plates for each colour in the original.
