A hand-painted animation cel with lithograph background, signed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
Making his debut in 1966, Space Ghost was a superhero who fought against evil in space and even ended up with his own late night talk-show in 1994, which was also one of the very first shows produced by Cartoon Network,
This unique hand-painted cel on a lithograph background features annotations which, combined with its intricate production process, provides a fascinating insight into the original techniques use by Hanna-Barbera animators back in the 1960s. Each still in a cartoon would be hand-drawn and painted onto acetate cels and set against separate painted backgrounds to create a snapshot from an entire scene. What’s more, lithograph printing is one of the oldest and highest quality methods printing where skilled artisans create individual plates for each colour in the original.
