A hand-signed limited-edition wall sculpture by Nic Joly.
In his new collection of work, , Nic has challenged conventional notions of scale, transforming the mundane into the extraordinary, and has created an entire universe within the palm of his hand. With references to past works as Nic reflects on the last decade and his past creations, the spirit of experimentation and the passion for self-expression are at the core of this new collection.
As with all Nic’s pieces, this individual artwork is multi-layered in its meaning. ‘Flying High’ connotes feelings over overcoming an obstacle, success and achieving goals and can also suggest a state of euphoria, elation and joy. However, in a more literal sense, it can refer to someone being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, which can lead to an altered or warped euphoric state of mind.
Nic has used these two figurines as metaphors to represent that even when we are ‘flying high’ and achieving our goals, there will always be someone to shoot you down. The important thing is, we continue to fly high. The viewer is asked to project their own context onto the artwork to gain an understanding and reflect. Whether it’s capturing the essence of a fleeting moment, reimagining historical scenes, or interpreting fictional scenes, Nic’s possesses a unique ability to communicate subtlety.
The limited edition invites viewers to pause, ponder, and marvel at the astonishing world of small wonders, reminding us that beauty and creativity can be found even in the tiniest of details, encouraging an intimate connection and a deeper appreciation of the artistry. The Next Chapter references Nic’s evolving creative journey with his progressive techniques, unexplored themes and sentiments yet to be unravelled and miniaturised.
