A hand-painted animation cel on a giclée background, hand-signed by Joseph Barbera and Bob Singer.
This celebratory hand-painted cel on giclée pays homage to the original Tom & Jerry cartoon short ‘Johann Mouse’ which was not only exceptional because it took place in Vienna, Austria rather than their typical American suburban home but, also because this episode saw the show receive its seventh and final academy award.
Signed by their original creators, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, this artwork comprises both a hand-painted title card and larger animation cel on a giclée background. Paying homage to the original animators’ techniques, where each still would be hand-drawn and painted onto acetate cels and set against separate painted backgrounds, the hand-painted nature of these cels captures the magic and passion that those early animators had in the mid to late 20th century.
